Hypermobility + Dysautonomia
Programs

re+active hypermobility + dysautonomia programs

Return to a full life, living with hypermobility, dysautonomia, EDS, POTS, Long COVID, and/or MCAS.

You can live a better life!

Certain conditions don't have cures — but that doesn't mean you don't have control over your life. An integrated therapy program, in addition to good medical management, can improve your quality of life and reduce your symptoms.

What's different at re+active?
  • Expert care only

Our entire team of physical therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, yoga therapists, and personal trainers are experienced in hypermobility and dysautonomia. We have continuing education for our therapists to stay up-to-date on the latest research.

  • Integration like nowhere else

All of your therapists are under one roof, and they hold weekly 30 minute meetings just to discuss your case! This means that your PT is working with your yoga therapist on safe movement, and your OT is coordinating with your psychologist on autonomic regulation.

  • Complexity is our jam!

Whether you have one chronic condition or ten, we're here for you.  We're joining your journey to figure out what works, with you in the driver's seat. If you're curious if we've worked with someone like you, apply today for a free consultation with one of our therapists!

What assessments do we do?

We perform evidence based assessments and treatments, including:

  • Hypermobility and joint stability assessment

  • Proprioceptive/body awareness sensory test

  • Body mechanics and ergonomics

  • Autonomic testing and biofeedback

  • Exercise/activity tolerance

  • Comprehensive behavioral sleep assessment

  • Lifestyle risk & supportive factors

  • Cognition

  • Emotional health

Apply online for our program to see if you are a good fit. After we receive your application, we will set up a free consult with you to see if this is a good fit for you.

Our program includes:

  • Physical therapy

  • Occupational therapy with a focus on lifestyle interventions like cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, energy management, and mindfulness.

  • Psychology for emotional and cognitive brain health and mind+body practices

  • Yoga therapy with a specialist who takes your hypermobility into account

  • Pilates specialist

  • Fitness and personal training

  • Coordination with other medical and professionals

What will an integrated program look like?

  • The amount of therapy depends on the person. We have both intensive outpatient program 3-5 days per week for a minimum of two weeks or a more extended program over a longer period of time.

  • Dysautonomia/POTS require a gentle, gradual retraining of your systems. Generally the course of treatment lasts 2~9 months, but that doesn't mean you're in therapy every single week for that whole time. Your program will likely include long breaks from therapy, and reduced frequency as you progress.

  • Our program is billable to insurance.

Success stories

"L" took a leave of absence from school due to severe pain, fainting, brain fog, activity intolerance, skin inflammation, food intolerance, and insomnia. After going through her program, she was able to return to school, live on-campus, socialize with friends, and self-manage her condition with confidence.

"T" is 32 years old and has been dealing with early symptoms of POTS, hEDS, and MCAS since childhood, seeing countless specialists, before coming to see us. Because of her conditions, she experienced fatigue, pain, dislocations, nausea, dizziness, and depressed mood. As a result, it was difficult to attend school, work, exercise, or get things done around the house. She was hoping to move out of her parents' house, but there were many barriers.

T completed a 6 week program with

  • Physical therapy x2/wk

  • Occupational therapy x2/wk

  • Psychology x2/wk

  • Yoga therapy x1/wk

After her program, T relocated back home to prepare for the big move — she found her own place, and is looking into part-time volunteer work. And while it wasn't the easiest thing, she also played pickle ball with her family!

Recently there have been some curveballs in her life with personal and family medical issues, but she is looking forward to coming back for a boost program to work towards new, updated goals!

Our philosophy:

  • Our philosophy of treatment is to understand you as a whole person, including body and brain connections, your environmental influences, and underlying neurologic and musculoskeletal issues. We focus on a neuroplasticity approach to improving and maintaining your movement and function and preventing decline so that you are empowered with the tools and resources for self-treatment.

  • Our therapy approach is strongly influenced by the research and principles of neuroplasticity.  We are driven by the idea that we can re-establish healthy connections through movement, motor control, sensory training, autonomic control and addressing underlying physical limitations.  We implement a strong motor learning approach to treatment including graded motor imagery and principles of autonomy, external focus and enhanced expectations.

Some of our approaches for you might include...

Treatment guide for POTS, EDS, MCAS. This includes Education & Lifestyle (supporting medical plan, OT, activity modification, pacing), Autonomic nervous system regulation (grounding, breathing, mindfulness, weighting, having fun), External supports (starting with least to the most support, compression, education), sensory training (proprioception, weighting, compression, external cues), body mechanics, and graded exercise program (POTS protocol, core strengthening, done in recumbent, etc)
